Thornfield House special School, Newtownabbey

A Message from the Principal

At Thornfield, we are proud to provide a nurturing and inclusive environment where every pupil is valued and supported to achieve their full potential. Our school caters for a diverse range of needs: the Junior School Department offers specialist provision for pupils with severe learning difficulties, while our Primary and Post-Primary Departments focus on supporting pupils with speech, language, and communication needs. We provide education from Primary 1 through to Post-16, ensuring continuity and care throughout each stage of learning.

We believe that a happy, confident learner is a successful learner. That’s why we place great emphasis on creating a safe, positive, and stimulating environment where pupils feel respected and encouraged. Every achievement, big or small, is recognised and celebrated, fostering a sense of pride and belonging within our school community.

At Thornfield, education goes beyond the classroom. We work in close partnership with families and professionals to deliver personalised learning experiences that meet individual needs and aspirations. Our dedicated staff team is committed to helping every pupil develop the skills, independence, and confidence they need for life beyond school.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Thornfield. We look forward to welcoming you and your child into our school family.
