A Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
You are very welcome to our school website, we hope that it will give you a flavour of the ethos and aims in Thornfield. Many visitors remark that they can feel the very positive and supportive atmosphere as soon as they walk in through the school door.
We are a regional school accepting pupils from far and wide and specialise in addressing specific language impairment. We pride ourselves on being a welcoming and inclusive school where a child centred approach is at the heart of all we do. Great emphasis is placed on working together and our collaborative efforts are aimed at maximising the opportunities for each individual child.
Thornfield benefits from a highly skilled and motivated workforce which includes Governors, Teachers, Classroom Assistants, Speech & Language Therapists and Ancillary/Clerical staff. Strong parental links are an important part of our combined efforts and a vibrant Parents Support Group play their part in our collective efforts.
Eight Speech and Language Therapist are based in Thornfield and through a range of strategies and approaches address many aspects of speech and language difficulties.
Pupils range from 4 – 16 years old and usually come from mainstream backgrounds. The length of stay in Thornfield varies dependant on ability and aptitudes. Average stays however are between 3-5 years before pupils are successfully returned to their local or receiving school.
We deliver the full Northern Ireland curriculum at an appropriate level and adapt our communication approaches and lesson pace to meet the specific and individual needs of our children. This enables our pupils to successfully achieve their full potential.
I would welcome any comments about our website and hope it provides you with the information you are looking for , if you need any further information please contact the school directly.
Yours sincerely
Colm Burns
